On May 18, 2024, the Vietnam Blockchain Association, the Academy of Blockchain and AI Innovation (ABAII) and FPT University Can Tho jointly organized the seminar “The Global AI Landscape and Career Opportunities for Students.” The event, part of the Unitour 6 program, welcomed nearly 500 students to ALPHA Hall at FPT University Can Tho.

During the seminar, Mr. Đào Trung Thành, Deputy Director of the ABAII Academy, delivered a presentation and analysis on “The New Wave of Artificial Intelligence – How It Changes the Way We Live, Learn, and Work.”

Mr. Thành emphasized: “We cannot deny the immense benefits of AI in supporting humans across various fields. According to PwC, AI has the potential to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Specifically, AI enables the automation of production processes, enhances labor productivity by up to 40%, and provides tools for more accurate medical diagnostics, with cancer diagnosis rates reaching up to 90%—10% higher than those of human doctors.”

However, Mr. Thành also highlighted that AI could become a double-edged sword if not used appropriately: “Evidence from the World Economic Forum shows that AI could replace 85 million jobs worldwide by 2025. The risk of job loss due to automation is a significant concern, especially for industries with repetitive tasks. Moreover, the rapid development of AI raises issues related to ethics, cybersecurity, and privacy. For instance, Deepfake technology can create highly realistic fake videos, posing risks of spreading misinformation and manipulating public opinion.”

Following Mr. Đào Trung Thành’s presentation, Mr. Hàng Minh Lợi, Director of the AI Innovation Center (AIIC), shared his perspective on leveraging AI as a powerful learning assistant for students.

“Currently, tools like ChatGPT and other AI platforms such as Google Scholar greatly assist students in learning and research. However, excessive reliance on AI can hinder creativity and critical thinking. Additionally, the risk of academic dishonesty increases, severely impacting copyright and intellectual property when AI is used to write essays or solve assignments on behalf of students. Therefore, integrating AI into education must be accompanied by ethical education, guiding students to use AI responsibly, filter information effectively, and develop independent thinking skills.”

Mr. Vũ Hồng Chiên, Director of FPT AI Quy Nhon, shared insights on job opportunities for students in the AI field.

Mr. Vũ Hồng Chiên, Director of FPT AI Quy Nhon, presented career opportunities in the AI field. He noted that demand for AI-related positions has grown by 74% annually over the past five years. Graduates in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or software engineering have significant advantages in securing roles such as AI engineers, data scientists, data analysts, and algorithm developers, with average salaries exceeding those in other fields by 30%. For FPT University students, a leading institution in technology, this presents both opportunities and challenges for their future careers.

Representing ICP Hub Vietnam, Mr. Hùng Nguyễn, a special guest in the discussion, shared: “Although the Blockchain and AI industries are booming, career opportunities in these fields face significant limitations due to the lack of knowledge and skills among workers. According to a LinkedIn report, only 2% of the global workforce possesses blockchain skills, and just 1% has AI skills. This highlights a severe shortage of human resources in the industry and underscores the need for increased investment in education and training to broaden opportunities, especially for the younger workforce.”

The event concluded successfully with enthusiastic support from FPT University Can Tho students. During the program, numerous knowledge-based gifts were presented to the students.

The seminar is the sixth activity in the Unitour 2024 series organized by the ABAII Institute, aiming to introduce Blockchain and AI to 100,000 students across 30 universities in Vietnam and award 1,000 scholarships to students passionate about these fields.

The program received support, collaboration, and contributions from the FPT AI Quy Nhon Research and Application Center and companies such as Onus Chain, Holdstation, DecomStar, Vino, AC Communications, SHE Blockchain, and Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).
