Leaders and VBA experts participate in anti-money laundering workshop organized by the US Department of State

During the period from April 18 to 20, representatives of the Vietnam Blockchain Association (VBA) participated in the workshop “Safeguarding Dual-Use Materials & Data Using Blockchain Technology Applications” organized by the US Department of State in collaboration with CRDF Global and Value Technology Foundation organized.

Workshop is held in 3 days, aiming to train experts from 3 countries Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. The main contents are about the role of blockchain technology when applied to economic sectors and other supporting industries, the rise of central bank digital currency (CBDC) and the importance of blockchain. Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism (AML/CFT) in the context of current globalization. Here, the VBA Standing Vice President also had the opportunity to share about the situation of CBDC research in Asia and the legal policies that Vietnamese regulators are discussing around this issue. Besides VBA leadership members, representatives of the State Bank, Ministry of National Defense, Anti-Money Laundering Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information and Communication also attended the workshop.

Mr. Phan Duc Trung – Standing Vice President of VBA shared: “Through these international exchanges, we are more and more aware of the great role of blockchain in the future. The content shared at this workshop will be a valuable resource for us to learn and build a curriculum on AML/CFT in Vietnam in the future.”

Two nonprofits are involved in the creation of the Global Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF Global), an independent nonprofit organization that promotes safety, security and sustainability through science and innovation. CRDF Global was authorized by the US Congress in 1992 under the Freedom Support Act and was established in 1995 by the National Science Foundation.

The experts at the workshop come from the Value Technology Foundation (VTF) – a non-profit organization promoting blockchain applications through education, advocacy and R&D activities, specializing in working with leaders in the industry public and private sectors.

VTF’s team of experts includes Dr. Victoria Adams, currently leading the SIMBA Chain Civil Federal Practice and also holding the same position at Consensys – one of the world’s leading blockchain research firms; expert Jason Brett – founder of VTF and working at Consensys; expert Frederic de Vaulx – working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the US Department of Commerce, expert Whitney Kalmbach – used to hold executive roles at J.P. Morgan Chase, Deloitte and Raytheon, before becoming an expert at J.P. Morgan Chase, Deloitte and Raytheon, before founding the consulting firm Key Bridge Advisors.
