In recent years, the Hong Kong government has affirmed its ambition to transform Hong Kong into an international cryptocurrency hub. Finance Secretary Paul Chan referred to “virtual assets (VA) and cryptocurrencies as unstoppable financial innovations” at an event organized by the Hong Kong Banking Association in November 2022. By June 2022, Hong Kong officially allowed retail cryptocurrency trading and introduced regulations to oversee businesses in the blockchain and Web3 sector wanted to operate there.
Vietnam has also been one of the Southeast Asian countries attracting investments in blockchain technology. On May 17, 2023, ABCD and VBA signed a cooperation agreement during the celebration of VBA’s first anniversary in Ho Chi Minh City. This visit by the ABCD delegation to the VBA office in Hanoi aimed to discuss potential future collaborations.
VBA actively shared information about its ongoing programs, including ChainTracer, a pioneering collaboration between the Vietnam Blockchain Association and the Social Enterprise Company for Fraud Prevention. ChainTracer provides reliable data on global fraud activities shared after tracing processes based on victim reports.
Recently, VBA successfully coordinated with the Vietnam Banking Association (VNBA) to organize two conferences on “Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and the Role of AML in Cryptocurrency Transactions” in Hanoi on September 20 and in Ho Chi Minh City on September 22.
Towards the end of October, VBA is planning to host a seminar “Blockchain in the Innovation and Creativity Process” at the National Innovation Center (NIC) as part of the largest-scale exhibition in Asia, led by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, with over 40,000 attendees.
